Birdie Einstein - How it All Ended Up
This is the follow up to a story from June 2016.
Well, little Einstein the rescued House Finch did indeed survive! The geckos weren't at all too sure what to make of a bird in the house:
I wound up co-parenting with his real parents. I'd keep him in his cage outside to protect him from the frequent parade of cats in the yard, and both his bio mom and dad would feed him right through the spokes!
(Spokes? It's not a wheel... bars? Like jail? I'm sticking with "spokes.")

I'd let them feed him first, then bring him in and give him formula too, in case he was still hungry.
We had flying lessons - he was a bit of a disaster for longer than I expected:
But I kept him near the open slider so he could hear and watch his "birth family" and eventually, I had him in his cage outside with the top open, and his parents came down to get him, and away he flew!
Here he is free, coming with the rest of them to get the seeds I put out:
I should have painted his toenails so I could recognize him. It turned out to be easy at first though: he was the roly poly one - oops! A bit too much feeding perhaps.
So he went from this:
To this:

What a good bird.
